Late Night Visits Empty Late Night Visits

Post by Lena Vershmitz Sat Mar 07, 2015 7:12 pm

One night during the week between meetings, Lena decided to go visit one of her potential teammates. She followed the path Elliott had taken after his meeting with Dorlin. She had followed him that night out of sheer boredom. She had even dropped her Coppercloud a couple of times to see if he was paying attention.

He was.

This night Lena donned her mistcloak and made her way through the quiet streets without incident. Elliot's home was on a modest-sized piece of property with a separate smaller building in the back. She decided to start with the store, picking the lock with ease. The walls were covered with weapons, mostly swords and a few smaller knives and daggers mixed in. Shelves covered with glass knick knacks and small animals lined one wall of the room. Lena picked up one of the animals, tilting her head curiously. She slipped her hand into her pocket then sighed, pulling the animal back out and placing it on the shelf.

Probably best not to be stealing from potential partners.

Walking over to the wall, Lena narrowed her eyes at all the metal weapons. She lifted a small sword off the wall and swung it awkwardly, soon placing it back on the wall while shaking her head.

"Too clumsy."

Walking toward one of the two locked rooms, she placed her ear against the door and burned Tin. She could hear slow breathing inside and assumed it was a bedroom. The second room had no audible signs of life, so she let herself into what turned out to be the kitchen. She helped herself to a single piece of fruit and turned to exit the room.

"I do hope you plan on replacing that. They are Roscoe's favorite. I can't stand them myself." Elliot walked down the stairs. "The thing about copper clouds is I can still use my other senses." He paused. "Also burning bronze all the time means I know when a smoker is around." He walks over to the door that remained closed. He knocks until it opens revealing Roscoe. "Get our guest and I some wine if you please Roscoe. You can have some also." Roscoe yawns and scratches himself as he walks across the room. Elliot then stares up and down at Leena. "What brings you here Mistborn?"

Lena smiled nonchalantly and tossed Roscoe the half-eaten fruit as he exited his room. In answer to the noble's question she shrugged and moved to take a seat.

"Boredom mostly, a little bit of curiosity concerning how good of a Seeker you are, but mostly just boredom."

She sat on the arm of an armchair, her feet resting in the seat, as she mindlessly flipped a coin between her fingers.

Elliot nods his head politely as she answers.

"Ah. So I see. And how didst thou find my skills. Were they up to par? Didst they exceed expectations? Perhaps they fell short of anything a Mistborn is capable of."

He eyes Leena with a grim look as Roscoe returns with the wine. Bringing a glass to Elliot first, then to Leena. He grunts as he sluggishly walks into his room with the rest of the bottle and closes the door.

Elliot swirls his glass and takes a tiny sip. Obviously not overly impressed by the flavor.

"I remember being bored and curious as a child... I read books, shot some arrows, practiced dueling. Ne're once did I follow anyone to their living quarters. Far from it. I would have an invitation. It would be planned. Had you let me known you would be in the neighborhood I could have had a fine meal prepared."

Lena sipped the wine, finding nothing disagreeable about the taste. In answer to his question she nodded somewhat agreeably.

"You noticed me, so I guess that's something. Can you tell what metal people are burning? All I can tell is if someone is burning something, but not what it is, unless their actions are obvious."

She burned Zinc as a test, but did nothing with it.

"You practice your skills in your free time, I practice mine. Invitations to dinner parties aren't really my thing anyway. You get a lot more out of it if you're not a guest. Parties provide all kinds of distractions and distracted people are the easiest to take from."

She said all of the above without a hint of spite or disdain, simply stating her thoughts.

Elliot smiled.

"You are now burning Zinc. Perhaps you aren't able to tell what people are burning because you lack focus. Back in Fadrex my families Terrisman was fond of remind us that a Jack of all trades is a master of none."

He pauses.

"Distracted people may be the easiest to take from, but you won't grow and learn by only taking easy marks. We all have limits but they are not stable as most people presume them to be. You can push yourself to the limit and eventually you will find that the deed you thought once impossible, can now be conquer'd with ease."

He finishes his wine and sets the glass down beside him.

"How many metals can you burn and control at a time? Not counting copper that is. Two? Three? Four?"

Nodding contemplatively, Lena listened to the Seeker's words of combined insult and wisdom.

"I've only consciously used my powers for about a year now, but I was a successful thief long before then. I haven't really had a chance to focus on any one metal."

She smiled eagerly as he mentioned pushing limits and increasingly difficult challenges.

"That's why I'm eager to get into House Venture. It's one of the only noble houses in town I've not thoroughly cased. I know the outside by heart, but have yet to get inside."

At his last question she tilted her head back as she looked thoughtfully at the ceiling.

"Not counting Copper? I can usually handle Zinc and Brass at the same time on the same person, but more than one person is hard. I can burn Pewter, Bronze, and Tin with any other metals, though sometimes the effects of Pewter on Iron and Steel is tricky."

She shrugged. "When I'm not stalking nobles and stealing their lackey's fruit, I practice with my metals."

Elliot nodde along paying special attention to the listing of the metals.

"Yes. For better or worse it seems we will all pay a visit to Keep Venture."

He stood up and walked over behind counter. He then knelt down to get something but still spoke loud enough to be heard.

"Burning multiple metals at the same time must be tricky, it's good you are capable. Which metal would you say is most important for a Mistborn? Have you chosen a metal to focus on?"

He stands back up and sets down an item covered on cloth that he begins unwrapping.

"What happens if you run out of metal amidst danger? Will you hide and wait? Try to run? Would you be able to defend yourself?"

Lena contemplated his question for a brief moment before responsing.

"Probably Pewter. It will keep me alive if things get too physical. It also makes me more agile. Not to mention no one expects a young woman to have such strength behind her. It also improves my speed, which is good in case of a hasty retreat."

"If I run out of metals in a dangerous situation, likely there are other Mistings nearby - friend or foe - whose vials I could potentially steal and use for myself. If not, I always have an exit strategy and would rather live to fight another day."
